work, 2011 to now
Installations, interactives, and the systems behind them.
These are the projects I can name publicly. Since 2020, most of my work has been under NDA, so it's listed further down by year and type, without names. I keep every client's confidences, yours included.
installations
-
Gaming SMALLab
I developed educational games and interactives for a motion-capture projection space.
The space ran more than a dozen games for middle- and high-school learners, on a projected floor that tracks how they move.
-
Lobby data wall
I built the wall's software at 5760 × 3240, with JavaScript, GLSL shaders, and Redux.
A nine-screen lobby wall that shows a year of comfort readings from sensors across the building.
-
AT&T AdWorks Lab
I connected the Cinder video wall to a large touchscreen web interactive I built.
I later rebuilt it as a portable version that traveled to events.
-
The Grid, Avenues
I built interactive screens for the school's video wall.
The wall showed social media, weather, news, and the school's live energy and printer paper use, all together.
-
Emojimatch, for Samsung
I built the content back end, the social media parts, and the tablet app.
The kiosk photographed visitors making emoji faces and sent them the result by email or text.
more projects
Smithsonian Latino Center
I developed the browser-based history consoles, eight touchscreen kiosks, for the Molina Family Latino Gallery at the National Museum of American History. A major part of the work was making them usable by visitors with vision, hearing, and movement disabilities.
Stevenson High School
I developed the interactive media wall in the athletic field house, run from a content system the staff update.
Asia Society Texas Center
I developed StoryBlocks, a reader for student comics on Asian culture and history that graphic-novel creators helped make. It has a teacher admin and a content system.
Into the Okavango
I contributed to the expedition data site.
NYU Langone
I worked on the Science Building media wall, with touch and motion sensing, run from a browser-based content system.
Regeneron
I helped restore the content system behind the lobby video wall.
Unequal Futures
I built the pre-release page for a series of speculative timelines on how AI affects different groups.
Bell Labs: The Anomaly
I built the content system that tagged and served the photos and video for each scene of The Anomaly, an interactive experience.
under NDA
Visitor and experience centers
Technical lead for content systems and show software, as part of a design studio's team.
Healthcare
Augmented-reality prototype in Unity, through another studio.
Social media platform
Data visualization and video tools, as a contract developer.
Healthcare
Virtual-reality prototype in the browser, as a contract developer.
web and data work
-
HuffPost Live
I was a technical lead on the front end and on the production CMS used by the producers, directors, writers, and PAs. An editor's change reached every viewer at once, with no reload.
We built a TV studio in a browser, with one CMS for everyone behind the live show. HuffPost Live won two Webby Awards for News & Information Channel.
-
ChronoQuest
I built the in-browser tool students use to design and upload Chrono tags, plus a meme generator.
I delivered it in under two days, with no back end.
Still online in 2026.
-
Lighter World
I built the recipe database, meal planner, and grocery list.
Lighter is a plant-based recipe and meal-planning service.
Still online in 2026.
-
African Elephant Atlas
I was one of the main developers of the atlas site and its data visualizations.
The atlas mapped the aerial census flown across 18 African countries and the steep fall in savanna elephant numbers it found.
-
Project Awesome
I built an interface of video clips floating in 3D space, with WebGL, CSS 3D, and HTML5 video.
Viewers picked their preferences from the clips instead of filling in a standard form.
-
Membit
I led the developers who built the iOS augmented-reality app, its back end, and its community site.
The app pins photos to the places they were taken, for others to find there in augmented reality.
other clients and partners
- Facebook, via Rockwell Group
- Nura
- Backflip
Before rich|strange, I worked at the American Museum of Natural History, The Huffington Post, and Parsons. The details are on the about page.
